Inside Web Summit Lisbon 2025: What It’s Really Like & How to Get Ready
Web Summit Lisbon 2025 in Portugal was simply “huge.” Not in the overwhelming sense, but in how everything was built , the scale, the energy, the execution. I’ve seen it firsthand, and everyone around me was simply amazed.
Picture this: a spacious arena with more than 70,000 people, thousands of startups, a sea of investors, and enough coffee to keep you talking for six days straight. But the real value wasn’t the size. It was the crowd & the pace, creating an exceptional business speed dating experience with inspiring people who are actually in the mood to talk, listen, and connect.
For everyone who couldn’t be there this year. this is both a recap of my experience and a practical guide for anyone planning to visit one of the leading tech conferences in Europe.
Networking at Web Summit Lisbon: Everyone Talks to Everyone.
What surprised me most is how easy it is to speak to people. You talk to someone in a queue or at a coffee stand, and suddenly they turn out to be exactly the type of company that needs your product or services.
The market is competitive, but in a good way. People show up ready to engage. You don’t need icebreakers; the atmosphere does the work.
The App, WhatsApp, and Random Encounters All Have a Purpose
The Web Summit Lisbon networking app helps with fast replies, scanning badges, planning talks, and finding people you’d never notice otherwise. The WhatsApp groups are nonstop invitations, event links, meetups, and intros.
But the best connections came from random encounters: standing in a queue, sitting on the floor, waiting for a stage changeover, grabbing a drink. Those moments created better leads and more honest conversations than anything formal.
Night Summit Matters More Than You Think
The Night Summit events in Lisbon’s tech ecosystem were all worth attending. It’s less formal, people open up faster, and you see the same faces again and again, which helps real relationships form.
If you’re worn out, just go anyway; these evenings were the ones that had the loudest laughter and most meaningful interactions of the whole week.
Mistakes Made (So You Don’t Repeat Them)
A few things I learned the hard way:
• While we reached out to people before the event and followed up each evening, which helped a lot. But the better approach is to start weeks earlier: connect in advance, schedule meetups, and warm up key conversations long before you land in Lisbon.
• Attended too many talks at the start. It’s better to stay on the floor and speak to people.
• Not taking enough photos or videos due to always being in valuable conversations. Get your content early, before things get fully engaged, your marketing team will thank you for not coming back empty-handed.
• If a conversation isn’t aligned with that you are looking for, it is okay to take their LinkedIn and move on. It’s normal; everyone gets it, and proudly, nobody is offended.
Your Pitch Improves Every Day
Didn’t stick to one script. I adapted the pitch depending on who I was speaking to. By day three it sounded sharper.
By day five, I could explain our value in a few seconds without thinking. When you say it so many times, it becomes second nature.
Logistics and Small Things That Actually Matter
Usually you’re just walking. The Lisbon venue feels big but easy to follow. The badge stays on everyone, even outside the event, so the city becomes part of the summit.
A few practical notes from my week:
• Wear comfy shoes. You’ll walk more than you expect, and your brain needs to focus on gain, not pain.
• Night Summit events fill fast on Luma. Register days before.
• Bring a universal adaptor. We got a monitor for our booth, and thesocket didn’t match, so the adaptor saved us.
• If you plan to give away merch, prepare it early. We were too busy talking to actually hand things out.
Lead Tracking Is Simple
The badge QR code is your best friend. Scan it, add notes, and export everything everyday. The follow-up becomes easy.
All you need in the moment is to capture interest. The real conversation can happen later, either on a quick online call or in person once the event is over.
Who Should Go
Web Summit is right for anyone who wants to:
• Enter a new market,
• Expand their network fast,
• Find early clients or partners,
• Land an investment, or pressure-test their story with people who don’t know them.
If you show up with a clear goal, stay flexible, and talk to people everywhere, even the random ones, the event pays off.
